Tinder: A Fairytale or Nightmare?

Recently a Las Vegas man realized that the decision to swipe right will haunt him for the rest of his life. After meeting up with his Tinder match he was left with a hookup and a big surprise. We’re not talking about the kind of feeling you get waking up on christmas morning to presents under the tree. No, in fact it was the feeling when he was later diagnosed with genital herpes that he contracted from his Tinder hook up.

Instead of learning a lesson about safe sex, he decided to take the situation to the next step and slapped a lawsuit on his former 2-time Tinder lover.

Tinder is a location-based dating and social discovery application that facilitates communication between mutually interested users, allowing matched users to chat. The app mainly has a reputation of being used strictly for “no strings attached” hookups.

The Las Vegas man met his Tinderella on February 4th and the glass slipper seemed to have fit. They began to talk about meeting up in person and the many different sexual partners she had met online. On February 12th the two met. When he had asked her for a condom she responded that she had none, that she was disease-free and on top of that she could not get pregnant anymore. On February 18th they decided to meet each other in Las Vegas, to once again have unprotected sexual intercourse.

It was on February 20th when she gave him a call saying that she had genital herpes, later he found out that she had known all along.

He is now charging the woman with battery, gross negligence, fraudulent misrepresentation, willful misconduct, constructive fraud, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He claims he has substantial medical care expenses, lost wages, lost earning capacity and loss of life enjoyment. He seeks $10,000 as well as attorney’s fees, unspecified punitive damages and other relief.

Should he have taken the extra precaution and worn the condom despite her assurance? Or is the Tinder app more to blame for the spread of STDs?Tinder
