Summer technically may not have officially started, but that hasn’t stopped Las Vegas from kicking off their pool parties and summer festivities. Huge musical acts and DJs like Diplo, Skrillex, Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki, Tiesto, and The Chainsmokers are all headlining various pool parties that range from the day clubs to the nightclubs. Encore has Encore Beach Club (EBC), MGM has Wet Republic, The Cosmopolitan has Marquee Dayclub, and Hard Rock has Rehab Beach Club just to name a few. And with these pool parties comes a slew of strict rules and restrictions that can instantly turn your party from pleasant to problems.
Be warned – the security checkpoint upon entrance is super rigorous at these clubs. You will be stopped and passed through a metal detector. Your small bags, purses, and wallets will be inspected within every nook and cranny. Many possessions will be confiscated at the door. Among the items prohibited and typically confiscated are over-the-counter medications (such as Tylenol), vitamins or anything in pill form, an array of liquids ranging from contact solution and eye drops to hand sanitizer, and of course sharp objects and anything that looks like a weapon.
The goal behind all of this of course, is to keep individuals safe, and to keep illegal drugs out. There is a zero-tolerance rule when it comes to controlled substances, and you can only imagine how strict these clubs are with drugs or any substances of the like, especially when simple everyday things like lip gloss, gum, and mints are seized at the door.
Even though Las Vegas has relaxed the purchase and usage of marijuana laws within the city, there are still very strict rules about where and when you can use it… and these clubs are not one of them! In fact, smoking marijuana anywhere on the Strip is strictly prohibited. Other drugs like cocaine, ecstasy, and molly are also strictly prohibited and highly illegal everywhere. Possession of any controlled substance other than one ounce of marijuana is a felony, and the sale of any controlled substance, including marijuana, is a felony offense.
The variety of offenses you could be charged with relating to drugs is very vast. They can range from Possession of Controlled Substance, Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, and Trafficking Controlled Substance. You could be charged simply for being Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance. For example, if Chris had in his possession any amount of cocaine upon entry to a club pool party, he would be charged with Felony Possession of Controlled Substance. And if the District Attorney can prove that he used that cocaine, he could be charged with another Felony known as Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance.
Many factors go into the defense and resolution of an Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance offense, and it is imperative to hire an experienced criminal defense attorney who has defended these charges multiple times and resulted in dismissals, a reduction of charges, and drug treatment without jail.
Now, this isn’t to scare you into not going to these parties, it’s just to give you a heads up and to let you know that you are protected. The parties can be very fun and entertaining, and are definitely an experience worth experiencing, but you need to be cautious of the consequences that may arise if you make some bad decisions upon entry.
