Troiano appointed to represent the public and Travis Doering’s family

On April 8, 2014 Las Vegas resident ,Travis Doering, was shot and killed after a two-hour standoff with police outside of his house.

While there was much controversy surrounding the incident with the public questioning whether or not the use of force by police was justified, this past June the District Attorney’s office made a final determination, that the use of deadly force against Mr. Doering was justified.

Following the incident the District Attorney’s Office made a preliminary determination that no criminal prosecution of the officers involved was appropriate. According to Clark County Ordinance Chapter 2.12, requires a Public Review following such a determination.

On June 10, 2015 a police fatality public fact-finding review where our very own, Michael Troiano was appointed by the Clark County Manager as the Ombudsman to represent the public and Travis Doering’s family.

“Throughout the process, I was provided all relevant information which related to the incident, such as photos, video, audio of 911 calls, and all witness statements and interviews. During the hearing, I was given an opportunity to ask questions regarding the facts and circumstances of the shooting, to provide the general public with all relevant information regarding the use of deadly force in this case. At the conclusion of the hearing, the Clark County District Attorney’s office made a final determination, that the use of deadly force, against Mr. Doering was justified.”

It had been reported that by Doering’s roommates expressed growing concern about his behavior in the weeks and days prior to the incident. It was also reported that Doering hadn’t slept for five days prior to the incident and toxicology reports revealed the presence of methamphetamines in his system.

At the time of the incident, Doering had been displaying erratic behavior and refused to put down his assault rifle when the Las Vegas Metropolitan SWAT Officer’s responded by shooting him one time in the head, promptly ending the perceived threat and his life.Screen Shot 2015-08-17 at 2.14.11 PM
