Downtown Las Vegas Implements Curfew For Teens

shutterstock_101273224Due to the popularity of First Friday, a downtown art walk held every month a mile from Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, the Las Vegas City Council has held that a special curfew is necessary on the weekends in this area. “Starting Friday, those under 18 will be subject to a ticket of $300 if identified in an area bound by Main Street, Ogden Avenue, Bridger Avenue and Maryland Parkway, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day.”

Las Vegas Metro Police will keep barricades in and around the affected area and maintain a large presence on East Fremont Street, and will attempt to locate and issue citation to offenders. The curfew is said to assist in the prevention of underage drinking and other related criminal activity in the downtown area. The new law exempts teens who are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, in addition to those who are going to or coming from work in the area.

Not only could a police officer issue a curfew citation under this new law, but they could also cite and/or arrest a teen for any related criminal activities, such as minor in consumption of alcohol, minor in possession of alcohol, public intoxication and disorderly conduct. If you or your juvenile child is cited and/or arrested it is important to contact an experienced criminal defense attorney to assist in this matter.
