This past Saturday, Jeb Bush visited Henderson and the conversation of gun control took front and center – a topic that has also been front and center for Nevada lawmakers this year.
On June 2, Gov. Bill Sandoval signed a bill that was first introduced this past February which establishes “state control over the regulation of policies concerning firearms” was consequently in direct conflict of local ordinance with concern to Clark County’s ‘blue cards’.
For decades Clark County’s so-called “blue card” ordinance has required firearms capable of being concealed to be registered and also prohibited the unlawful transfer of handguns.
Since this bill has now been passed and signed, residents in Clark County no longer have to worry about the Metro ticketing or making arrests for failing to have their handgun registered by Clark County.
Additionally, according to Metro’s director of intergovernmental services, Chuck Calloway stated that the department will keep the current list of registered firearms for one year and then it will be deleted.
If you had a previous citation for failing to register your handgun, that citation will currently still stand, however if you come across an officer attempting to cite you for failing to register a handgun be sure to contact your local attorney.
Since the church shooting in South Carolina on June 15, there has been much talk about gun control and how to prevent these types of tragedies from occurring. However, the general sentiment among Nevadans is that tightening gun laws isn’t going to prevent a person with a tragic agenda from acquiring a gun.
This change in the law allows additional ease for law abiding citizens within Clark County to acquire a handgun.
