It’s mid-afternoon and your phone begins to ring. It’s the Police Department, trying to collect money for some recent legal troubles you’ve had. If you don’t pay, the police threaten you with a warrant for arrest.
To avoid any further trouble, you pay the officer. Only it’s not a police officer, and it’s not the Police Department. You’ve just been duped, like many other Las Vegas residents.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has received several reports from individuals who were contacted from a number traced back to their South Central Area Command. The unknown subjects demand payment from the individuals for their various legal troubles. If the individuals refuse to pay, the fake callers threatens a warrant for arrest.
Las Vegas residents should protect themselves against these calls. The LVMPD wants to remind residents that attempts to collect payment are never made over the phone. Residents who’ve been victim or contacted by a phony caller are encouraged to file an incident report with the LVMPD Headquarter Records Bureau. The postman always rings twice, but the LVMPD never rings once.
